Bring Back The Polybag!

To further expand on the idea of the comic buying public slowly withering and dying...

Why don't comic book publishers sell comics through big chains such as Walmart?

Now, I know there would be massive problems with selling new releases through this distribution channel, but what about bringing back the old style polybags that had books that were a few months old?

You'd think this would be job #1 for the boys and girls in marketing at Marvel and DC. It just might stop their slow slide into oblivion and get kids interested in comics again. Why not sell the polybagged 3 packs again? Walmart would be the perfect venue for something like this. Take the newsstand returns and put 'em in polybags .... 3 for $1.99 or something like that. They're only going to destroy the returns anyway, right?!?

Seems like a no-brainer to me, but perhaps there are behind the scenes issues that make this impractical....

I think it would be cool to bring back 3 packs of comics. There are someplaces that do this,Iwas at hastings not to long ago and they had bagged 3 packs of comics for $2.99.They where mostly late 80's early 90's and mostly stuff you'd find in quarter bins but I did manage to get a few good books spectre #1,green lantern:emerald dawn. Also at a dollar store a couple of years back they had 3packs of comics for $1 all 90's marvel stuff got some good ren & stimpy books. It would be a good idea for marvel,DC,even archie to sell 3 packs at national chains such as walmart, target, etc.

Until I saw your blog comments I was not even aware people really collected these anymore. Definitely on the downswing. About as riveting to the general public as stamp collecting. The mass appeal of comic books lies in sentimental memory. I can't see kids these days reading comic books now that they can virtually exist inside a 3D world with video games like "Call of Duty", "Final Fantasy" and "Half-Life". This hobby will erode significantly, ala stamps.
