A Reagan Expert Weighs In...

Autograph collector extraordinaire, Dr. Stephen Beck, has told me that Reagan did sign books (on the book itself, not on a bookplate) for a short period in 1993. That said, books signed on the book are still very uncommon, but they do exist.

Thanks for your input. Kurt. Perhaps we have different definitions of "very uncommon", but I think it's important to note that bookplates are much more common and many signed books are fakes. The least common among a) authentic bookplates, b) authentic signed books and c) fake signed books is choice B.

It is my impression that Reagan signed copies of "An American Life" through the mail mostly on the book itself from 1990 through some time in 1993. I received three copies signed by him, from July 1991 - February 1993, and all were signed on the book itself and dated below his signature. I would imagine a great number of these exist, but are being held on to by collectors more than the less desirable bookplate-signed books. Just my guess
